E-cigarettes as Aids in Quitting Smoking

Via Reuters, electronic cigarettes may have helped about 18,000 people in England to give up smoking last year and there is no evidence of any serious side effects associated with their use for up to two years, according to studies published on Tuesday.

“For cigarette smokers smoking cessation remains the biggest and most powerful positive health intervention available. For those with diabetes it trumps controlling blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol. At BCDiabetes we take smoking cessation seriously and offer support to all those motivated to do so. In the light of these new data on the safety and benefits of e-cigarettes or vaping we will now be adding “vaping instead of smoking” as a suggested new treatment in our soon to be released app myBCD.” – Dr. Tom Elliott, Medical Director at BCDiabetes
