Role of Self-Compassion in Diabetes Control

Living With Diabetes, Research | Diabetes Research, Headspace, Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes

A recent randomized control trial involving a mindful, self-compassion (MSC) intervention showed that that the intervention “increased self-compassion and produced statistically and clinically significant reductions in depression and diabetes distress in the intervention group, with results maintained at 3-month follow-up.” In addition, MSC participants showed a decrease in A1c versus the control group.

At BCDiabetes we recognize that mindfulness is a key component of a comprehensive diabetes care plan. BCdiabetes has partnered with Headspace the most widely used meditation app. Using this secular non-religious meditation app BCDiabetes clients will further test the validity that actively nurturing the self improves not only quality of life that hard diabetes outcomes.
